American Nightmare

Unlike most bands during the time that AN formed, This band's songs were full of witty sarcasm and melancholy lyrics, much like certain other bands at the time, including The Suicide File.

AN had to change their name a few times thanks to some really shitty bar band.

Screw 32 - Unresolved Childhood Issues

Screw 32 used to be an East Bay punk rock band. The band, now defunct featured current/ex members of bands such as Hopelifter, End of the World, Shadowboxer, Highwire Days, samiam, tilt, nothing cool, as well as Dance Hall Crashers.
This is a personal favorite record of mine I grew up listening to this on 12" along with my Scattered Fall and Oozies 7" records.

Enjoy Unresolved Childhood Issues.

Joy Division

Joy Division was a post punk band from England in the 1970s, They formed in 1976 when Ian Curtis met Brian Sumner and Peter Hook at a Sex Pistols performance. After finally deciding on Stephen Morris as their drummer over the many they had tried out prior, They ended up changing their name to Joy Division rather than Warsaw as they had originally intended. This was due to a dispute with another band from the area at the same time who went by the name Warsaw Pakt.

Curtis soon became well known for his alienated, somber and at times akward stage presence, As well as his signature dances that he used to do on stage which have been compared to the seizures that he sometimes experienced due to his eplipsy.

His lyrics, Which he sang mostly in a baritone lament were about death, remoteness, loneliness and seclusion as well as feelin estranged, withdrawn and indifference. He primarily sang in Joy Division, however he as played guitars, and key synthizers on many of their songs.

The Legend that was Ian Curtis comitted suicide on this day 30 years ago, There would be many biographies created about his life and death including his estranged wife Debbie Curtis's book Touching From A Distance, as well as the 2007 biopic Control by Anton Corbijn.

The Almighty Ink & Dagger

"Ink & Dagger was a Vampire-themed punk hardcore band from Philadelphia that formed in 1996. The band was started by the only two permanent members throughout the band's ever changing line up, guitarist Don Devore and vocalist Sean Patrick McCabe after the break ups of their former bands Frail & Mandela Strike Force. Ink & Dagger was very influenced by vampires & they frequently incorporated references to them in their music. During 1996 to 1997 (Love Is Dead EP, & Drive this Seven-inch stake era) they would often paint their faces, play with fake blood, throw up on Christmas trees & have strobe lights on stage. In 1998 when The fine Art of Original Sin came out they stopped wearing the face paint and the music started to lean away from the punk hardcore roots and more towards experimental music, but of course they were still as crazy as ever. In 1999 after extensive touring & recording what was to be the band's final album Ink & Dagger (self titled) , Ink & Dagger formally announced that they were disbanding. In 2000 singer Sean McCabe (at age 27) was found dead in a motel room in Indiana after he had ingested to much alcohol. he had passed out due to the drinking, and choked on his own vomit. R.I.P. Sean Patrick McCabe 1972-2000

Scattered Fall

For me, Scattered Fall was and is one of the most influential bands from my home town that I've seen to date.

I've seen them countless times in sweaty packed rooms, and they never failed to deliver a crucial performance of melancholly lyrics and fast paced music driven by raw energy.

Scattered Fall played their final show on May 9th 2009.

Here is "For You my Dear" an oldie but still an amazing record from the late Scattered Fall.

The Nerve Agents

The Nerve Agents were a main part of the East Bay hardcore movement in the 90s. Channeling their influnces such as Youth of Today, 45 Grave and David Bowie, They set themselves apart from other Hardcore bands by wearing eye-liner and using theatrics in their energetic and often times violent performances. Members would later form such bands as The Distillers, Said Radio, Darker my Love, and Hudson Criminal.

Here's their self titled E.P.
